Woollahra Residence

The project entailed a complete redesign and reconfiguration of a 1970s Woollahra terrace.

Our approach involved re-planning the terrace’s layout, connecting previously inaccessible and underutilised subterranean storage areas, and delivering a full internal fit-out suitable for a high-end Woollahra home.

The original floor plan was poorly organised with inefficient circulation. The clients sought creative and innovative solutions to breathe new life into the home and wished to transform awkward spaces into practical, family-friendly areas.

On the ground floor, new openings in existing walls were introduced to create a more open and flexible layout, centred around a central kitchen. This design aimed to offer versatility in how living zones are used, enhance ventilation, and maximise natural light throughout the home.

The first floor renovations involved updating three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Obstructive structural elements were replaced with sculpted ceiling forms and large skylights, which bathe the landing area and bathrooms in natural light.

Thoughtful planning also connected the previously inaccessible basement with the rest of the house via a new staircase. The basement was reimagined to include a family room, laundry, wine cellar, bathroom, and gym.

The home’s cohesive theme is achieved through the use of warm, natural materials. Timber joinery, stone thresholds, and oak parquetry create a classic yet contemporary feel, while the revised layout makes clever use of every available space.
