Paddington Street Terrace / In Progress

The Paddington Street project represents a refined architectural intervention within a heritage terrace, where contemporary design meets the rich character of its period origins.

The proposed development is focused on the rear and interior of the terrace, with a series of strategically considered elements that enhance both function and aesthetic. This includes the demolition of the existing rear extension and garage roof, to make way for a new two-storey rear addition that extends to the side boundary, incorporating a lift, kitchen, and informal living areas on the ground floor. The first floor will house a bedroom with an ensuite, while subtle alterations to the internal circulation optimise the use of space and light.

At the top of the house, a new attic fit-out with a rear-facing dormer window introduces an elegant loft bedroom, while a new skylight strategy maximises natural light and ventilation throughout the home. These carefully positioned skylights, along with a loft bedroom over the garage, create dynamic connections to the sky and surrounding environment, enhancing the spatial experience and creating a light-filled sanctuary.

The design pays careful homage to the heritage of the terrace, with contemporary interpretations of period details that ensure a seamless blend of old and new. The material palette, featuring warm timber, light-coloured stone, and sculpted ceiling forms, introduces a modern sensibility while respecting the terrace’s architectural legacy. No work is proposed to the front of the terrace, other than urgent conservation and restoration, allowing the home to retain its historic presence, while the rear extension provides a sophisticated and functional modern living space.
