'Hilldrop', Woollahra
This Woollahra project reimagines two late-19th-century Victorian terraces as a single family home, balancing heritage preservation with contemporary living. Conceived as an exploration of light and void, the design celebrates the character and history of the original buildings while introducing a series of carefully considered additions that contrast and complement the existing fabric.
At its heart, the project connects the rear of the home to a generous courtyard garden, transforming the living spaces into an indoor–outdoor oasis within the dense urban fabric of Woollahra. The design investigates how we live in and move through our homes, blending old and new while maximising natural light within the constraints of a challenging terrace form.
A restrained palette of natural brick, timber, concrete, steel and stone grounds the project in materials that are timeless, tactile and enduring, creating a home that feels both deeply connected to its history and distinctly contemporary.
